The essential qualification is B.Sc. (Agr.) under a four-year degree programme and M.Sc. (Agri) 2nd Class from a college/university recognized by the State Government, Central Government or ICAR. The desirable qualification is M.Sc. (Agri.) 1st Class or above. The advertisement also lists knowledge of the customs, manners and dialects of Himachal Pradesh and suitability for the peculiar conditions prevailing in the Pradesh as desirable.
The basic age limit is 18 to 45 years, with age reckoned as on 1 January 2026. HPPSC states that objective screening tests carry negative marking. For each wrong answer, 0.25 of the marks assigned to the question is deducted. If a question is left blank without selecting the designated “E” option, the same penalty applies.
For posts up to 25 vacancies, HPPSC states that Paper-II answer sheets are evaluated for 20 times the number of vacancies. With 23 advertised posts, this rule corresponds to 460 answer sheets, subject to the notification's other conditions. Candidates scoring zero or negative marks in Paper-I do not form part of the merit list for this purpose.
The notification sets the minimum qualifying marks in the SAT at 45% for General category candidates and 40% for reserved category candidates for qualification to the Personality Test. The Personality Test is for 30 marks, with minimum qualifying marks of 12 for General category candidates and 9 for reserved category candidates.
